Sarah Haynes Set 4

  1. Title: Forever Sakura Shopping Bag
  2. Media:  Digital Design
  3. Size: 12x8in
  4. Date Complete: Fall 2011
This bag was created in the Illustration class.  To create this bag, I simply did a live trace of an image of cherry blossom flowers that I took, reversed the colors and placed the white graphic onto the bag.

  1. Title:  Art a la carte
  2. Media: Digital design
  3. Size 12x18
  4. Date Complete:  Jan. 2012
This poster was created for the yc foundation art a la carte art talks.  This was part of a series of work done for them, including the logo and mock brochure.  I wanted to keep a clean, eye catching, and easy to read poster that would appeal to all students at YC, regardless of their age or gender.

  1. Title: Stears Marketing Business card
  2. Media: Digital design, hand drawn illustrations
  3. Size: 3.5x2in
  4. Date Complete: Jan. 3013
This is the business card that i designed for a local marketing consultant.  I hand drew the icons, which relate to the services that she provides to her clients.  I also had the challenge of designing in two Pantone colors for the logo, icons, business card, and website icons.  I am currently working with this client on their website, brochure and future business cards.  I loved the project because I was able to come up with my own ideas and present them to the client, rather than the client telling me exactly what they wanted, I had a bit more freedom.

Twig by Branch

Twig by Branch
Graphite on Paper
17"x14"
9/12
I traced out everything first.
Then I filled it all in and made sure that my pencil strokes
followed the direction of the branches.

Trees, Rocks, and Water
Ink and Colored Pencil on Paper
14"x17"
12/12
First I used an ink pen and outlined everything.
Next I used different ink washes to get the shading.
Then I added color and the border.

2D

Red Forest
Charcoal and Colored Pencil on Paper
14"x17"
10/12
I made this landscape by first laying down the
darkest charcoal parts,
then then parts with the most color.
After that I added and removed charcoal and colored pencil
in as many layers as it took to get the effect I wanted.

Old Cherry Tree
Brass, Copper Wire, Silver Solder
3.5"x2.5"x0.5"
7/10
For this piece I  created a wire form of the tree branch
then used the hydraulic press to impress that form into a piece of brass.
After I cut out the branch from the sheet of metal
I soldered on the wire flowers that I had made.

Entangled
Copper wire and Silver Solder
3"x3"x1"
8/12
I made this bracelet for mu Jewelry 1 class last year.
I twisted 2 strands of copper wire together
and ended up with 4 strands of twisted wire.
Which I then soldered  so they wouldn't untwist.
Then I wove them together, hammered it flat
and soldered the stands to themselves.

Dragon's Eye Necklace and Earrings
Copper, Brass, Tigers Eye
3.5"x3.5"x0.5"
2/2013
This is a jewelry piece I did for my Jewelry 2 class this semester.
It has a bezel set stone, movable and stationary rivets and marriage of metals.
It took a long time to make.

Vine Arts Wine Bottle Design

Title: Vine Arts
Media: Digital
Size: Each label 3.5" x 5"
Date Completed: April 2012
Designing these wine bottles was one of my favorite projects. I went with a fine art theme and incorporated artistic elements like paint drips and frames. Each bottle is based on a different art movement and has a quote from the artists on the back label.

Caffeinated Logo

Title: Caffeinated
Media: Digital
Size: 5" x 5"
Date Completed: February 2012

This is a logo I made for a fictional coffee company. I wanted to make a design that said "energy", so I used a lightning bolt/steam motif and a shaky-looking font.

Gypsy Blood Book Cover

Title: Gypsy Blood
Media: Digital
Size: 11" x 7.5"
Date Completed: October 2011
I designed this book cover using Illustrator and Photoshop.

Sushi clip art - before and after

This was a part of the newsletter assignment that I just completed for Advanced Graphic Design Projects. Our mission was to take a standard web clip art and alter it. Working on the sushi theme I found this fun clip art of a happy sushi roll. I opened it in Photoshop and using the eraser tool, removed the face and rice on the front of the roll. I imported it into Illustrator and used the pen tool to illustrate the roll. I added a few gradients to the colors to give it a more realistic feel. I drew a few pieces of rice, grouped them then copied them all over the top of the roll. The final product is an Illustrator vector file so it can be used on any size project from web to print and billboards.

Newsletter - The Fresh Catch

This is a newsletter I created this semester in Advanced Graphic Design Projects. The concept was to create a newsletter using the business logo we just created. Staying with the sushi concept I created a newsletter titled The Fresh Catch. I used the business logo I just created and several photos that I've taken at various times of actually Sushi J Express menu items. The layout was created in InDesign to be printed on 11x17 paper and be folded and mailed through the post office.

Business Logo - Sushi Express

This is a business logo I created this semester for Advanced Graphic Design Projects. The title is Sushi Express and it's design was inspired by Sushi J Express. Their logo is very simple and doesn't reflect the wonderful food they create. I wanted something that was "cut up" the way a sushi roll is so I illustrated the fish then cut it into pieces using the word sushi. This is an Illustrator file that can be re-sized for any need from a large sign to print and web applications.

Personal Logo Design

Assignment to create a personal logo. I created this log as a reflection of my name and my personality.  Feel like I was successful in capturing my fun side while also incorporating my love of contrast and the color red.  Overall a very successful design.

Book Cover Illustration

Assignment to create a book cover.  This book cover is a fully illustrated piece, started off as hand drawn. This was a really fun project.  The story "the Sixth Borough" is an excerpt from the book "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer.  This dust cover actually fits a version of the book itself.

Newsletter - Old Hat Brewery & Grill

Assignment to create a four page newsletter using business logo design.  The Old Hat Brewery and Grill is a semi-fictitious place.  It was at one time a bar in Lawton, MI but is currently closed.  The name of the bar inspired the logo design and the logo design inspired the newsletter.  The beer glass on the first page, the Facebook logo on the second page, the background image of the graph, and the building are all illustrations.
