Forrest Owl
Acrylic on Canvas board 16" x 20"
March 2012
In Painting I, Spring 2012, taught by Dana Cohn, we learned to look at things as shapes, and as such these shapes became form and line.  The subject then blended away from our worries and slowly took on the appearance of  the photographed subject.
The process of turning the image upside down and painting that way turned out to be a remarkable owl, I had never done wildlife in paint and am not a good anatomist on the outset, but with practice I think it is a good image of a barred owl.
The most difficult part was the haziness of the background of the photograph, over a 2 week period I went from acrylic was to dabbing and left the main images as clear brush strokes.

The Image obtained via Google Images of birds, and narrowed down to owls.
