- The Form
- Clay

- The process of sculpting is subtraction removing material to create the form. With this piece I took a 10 by 6 by 1/2 inch piece of foam, cut out some holes and then used a rubber bands to create a structured effect. Then using that as the model I began to carve into the 25 pound block of firm clay. The carving marks are deliberate for texture. To support the base better so the piece would be free standing I opened the interior of the "butt" and removed excess material. It was fired to bisque and is unglazed. This was exceptionally enjoyable for me to make in Laura Bloomenstein's 3 D Design course at Yavapai College Spring 2012.
